To instantly open up the stock camera app on the Moto X device, you can just turn it twice just like you are shaking the phone and you will find the camera viewfinder immediately. Launch Camera App on Android With a Twist of your Wrist
But the main concern about this feature is it's only available for the Moto X not available for any other android smartphones. But if you want to get this similar feature for your Android device regardless of any model, and provided it’s running on Android 4.0 ICS or above versions, QuickCamera is the best option available right now. Inspired by the Moto X feature mentioned previously, this app enables you to launch the default camera app with a twist of a wrist.
QuickCamera App is Free and Open Source
QuickCamera app has been coded by an XDA-developers forum member ssrijj, and the best thing about this app is it's open source. You can find the source code of this app freely at Github. The app is still in it's early stage of development, it is currently in Alpha this means bugs are to be expected. To test this app I installed this app on my phone while testing this app I didn’t find any bugs at all. It works perfectly fine for me.
How To Use the QuickCamera App
When you launch the QuickCamera app it's interface has a two buttons for triggering the app on or off. By tapping the Turn On button (Blue) enables the shake feature on your device and this app starts to run on backgournd. You can just close the app and you can make use of the gesture to open the camera app at any time. One thing I like about this app is it works even if your display isn’t awake.
To activate the camera, with QuickCamera service running, all you have to do is quickly twist your wrist twice, with your phone on your hand (remember it has to be real quick), now you can see the camera app on your device turned on. You can easily deactivate the app by just tapping the Turn Off (Red Button) inside the app.
Advanced Modes in QuickCamera
QuickCamera allows you to configure a couple of things according to your liking simply by launching the debug mode. To access the debug mode you have to press down the volume button 3 times while you are inside the app. This feature includes choosing the sensor type accelerometer or linear accelerometer, specifying X-axis threshold (the default value is 5), and by enabling the Proximity sensor to stop camera from launching while the phone is inside your pocket.
What is to be Expected Next?
In future or in the next updates, the app will receive more important features like gyroscope sensor support which is for much better accuracy, improved lockscreen bypass support, and lot more. You can check out the XDA forum developer thread for more information about the app and the app also available on Google Play Store check it out but you can download the app by becoming an tester so do remember that.
